Roundtable Applauds Resolution for Financial Literacy Month
April is Financial Literacy Month
Washington, D.C. – April 18, 2008 – The Financial Services Roundtable supports
the bi-partisan congressional resolution recognizing April as “Financial Literacy
Month”, introduced by Reps. Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX) and Judy Biggert (R-IL).
“This resolution supports the goals, ideas, and importance of financial education in
the lives of all Americans,” said Steve Bartlett, President and CEO of The
Financial Services Roundtable. “Financial education is a top priority for the
industry and we will continue to reach out to the community with projects like
Community Service 2008. I applaud Reps. Hinojosa and Biggert for their
leadership on this important issue."
The purpose of Community Service 2008 is to increase awareness of volunteer
activities of financial services employees in the communities in which they work.
The focus this year is on financial education. Member companies of the Financial
Services Roundtable are emphasizing the importance of financial education in their communities.
The Financial Services Roundtable represents 100 of the largest integrated
financial services companies providing banking, insurance, and investment
products and services to the American consumer. Member companies participate
through the Chief Executive Officer and other senior executives nominated by the
CEO.
Roundtable member companies provide fuel for America's economic engine,
accounting directly for $66.1 trillion in managed assets, $1.1 trillion in revenue,
and 2.5 million jobs.
